Herd
Sires
Notwithstanding
a multitude of vitally important factors in successful purebred
breeding operations, the number one influence is still the
herd bull, and to this end Geis Angus continue to stress the
importance of matching herd bulls to cow families -- and,
at the same time, keeping in close contact with changing beef
industry standards and requirements.
An
extremely productive and consistent cow herd is vitally important,
but the herd bulls being used will determine both the immediate
and long-term future of much of the Canadian beef industry.
Today Geis Angus is aiming to produce beef bulls that will
excel for the commercial cattleman (as well as future purebred
breeding programs).
With
the current emphasis at Geis Angus on correct, deep bodied,
beef sires, the calf crops reflect the unique cross between
these industry-leading bulls and the foundation cow herd at
the Geis operations. Today the calves are particularly strong
on feet and legs, with very correct structure and all the
other notable characteristics which contribute to the progress
of the Angus breed.
